AK: yes, reg. Hyde Act even Finance minister Chidambaram says that Hyde Act doesn't bind India and it would not interfere with India's affairs. It seems it is meant for facilitating nuclear deal. and I am seeing the dates of nuclear deal..it was announced in 2005 itself and finalized in 2006. Then what is this '123 Agreement' which was released in 2007? Is it again to define/elaborate the Nuclear deal cooperation? Any idea why it is called '123' Agreement? Please share the informaton on it (if you have/get). Thanks.

time for Indian to come out of political compulsion, and work in the best interest of the nation .

I also see not much with the hyde act, and its an internal issue and law of land of the US, it has no binding to India ..

how Hyde can influence US Congress is internal politics, and will it will have consequence in the 123, but can not bind or do any thing that affects strategic interest of India, its growth and sovereignty

france is a good example of going the Atomic way to generate power ..
first preference of course can be for renewable energy, but going nueclear is very much needed for the size of India, and its ever growing industry demands ..

and it has direct imapact on the economy and the deficit we face with Carbon fuel

And petro chemical biggies also knows its a threat, but the they are already back to board to persuade the Govt. to have PVT Public partnership for Nuclear facilitties
they would try to delay to till they are ready, so there is a lobby which is not interested for economic reason, but that is hort term

Very good analysis. It also gives information in a simple & straight way which everyone can understand. My only fear about this whole deal with USA is that of safety & security. Bhopal gas tragedy, export of dangerous pesticides like DDT, selling of banned medicines etc have happened when US private companies were involved in the deals. Even for this nuclear deal , power-gaints like GE energy are getting contracts and deals. India should be very careful with this deal as it is nuclear in nature.

very good & simple analysis of the Deal for people like me who didnt follow up the issue. My only fear is because of the examples from the past. Whenever we dealt with US we had to wake up end up with a bad taste in the mouth. Bhopal Gas tragedy issue, export of banned pesticides, selling of dangerous pharmaceuticals etc have all happened only when we dealt with US companies. This deal will bring in private US power players like GE energy and if India is not careful it may prove very dangerous.
